Gelena Tours is the new name of a travel company with a 20-year history, previously known as Japan Israel. It is well-known among experienced Israeli travelers who have already seen the world and are looking for new, unexplored corners of the planet. While keeping Japan as a priority, the company began offering exclusive tours tailored for this audience.
They approached us with a request to update their website, created over 10 years ago, with the requirement to keep WordPress as the CMS. The target audience: people over 60 years old, immigrants from the former USSR.
What was implemented in the new version of the website:
- Design inspired by Japan — minimalism and technological elegance. We created a site that looks sleek and neat both on the surface and “under the hood.”
- Informative and accessible interface — tour programs, conditions, and other key information can span 3-5 thousand words (about 12-20 pages of text) per tour. We organized the content so that each block appears in time, without overwhelming the user.
- Tour catalog with filtering — using only WordPress and ACF, we customized the admin panel for easier tour management.
- Content block generation — based on a few data fields. This saves time and minimizes errors when creating tour conditions.
- Automated interactions — customer emails are generated automatically based on tour conditions, ensuring accurate and detailed information.
- Interactive world map — showing available travel destinations.
Customized Admin Panel
We are proud that the customization to meet the client’s needs was executed at the highest level. By retaining WordPress functionality through customization and using ACF, we managed to create a site that is easy to manage, fast, and secure. You can read more about the importance of customizing the admin panel in the article How to simplify website management? Customization, Part 1.
Relationships between blocks and data output
One of the key features of the site was the interconnection of information blocks. The main structural units on the Gelena Tours website are tours, guides, reviews, and countries. Each tour is linked to one or more guides and takes place in one or more countries. Reviews are tied to guides and countries, and the tour page displays information about guides, other tours to those countries, and reviews related to that tour.
Conclusions
The project was completed within a few months and launched before the start of the travel season. The main functionality was implemented immediately, while the interactive map was completed a month later. The 100% engagement of the Gelena Tours team and a clear understanding of expected results contributed to the project’s success.
UPD: A year later, minor improvements were required, confirming the well-thought-out and high-quality implementation of the project’s logic.
